Improve Your Live Performances | www.tomjacksonproductions.com
You practice how you play your songs, but shouldn’t you practice what you’re going to do onstage when you perform? Of course you should. Tom Jackson is a live music producer who works with artists/bands to help them gain confidence onstage and connect better with their audience. I’ve watched him work with bands before, and it’s amazing how much of a transformation a band can make after only a few hours with him. Check out his blog for some great tips!
Hearing Conservation | www.etymoticresearch.com
If you’re serious about your music, you need to protect your most valuable sense: your hearing! I don’t want to scare you, but once you’ve damaged your hearing, it’s often irreversible. Even if you haven’t been protecting you’re hearing so far, don’t just give up because it’s already damaged. You can still keep it from getting worse.
Summer Music Programs
GRAMMY Camp | www.grammycamp.com
GRAMMY Camp is the GRAMMY Foundation’s signature music industry immersion program for high school students. Career tracks offered include Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Songwriting, Engineering for Audio & Video, Electronic Music Production, Music Journalism, Marketing & Management, and Concert Production. I went in 2012 to the New York and Los Angeles sessions in the Engineering for Audio & Video Career Track, and it was an amazing, hands-on experience. I learned so much, made lots of great contacts, and got to do things I couldn’t have imagined I’d do so early in my career.
Camp Electric | www.campelectric.com
A “Worship and Rock and Roll music camp,” Camp Electric is a five-day music camp for students ages 13-19. Every day, campers receive instruction from players from bands such as TobyMac, Skillet, Mandisa, Jeremy Camp, and many others. There are also nightly concerts from groups of all styels and daily worship led by up-and-coming worship bands. Tracks offered are Electric Guitar, Vocals, Bass, Drums, Keyboard, Acoustic Guitar, Songwriting, Live Sound, and Video. I’ve gone for all five years since the first camp in 2008, and it’s seriously changed my life.
